The role

Job description

Markage is looking for a Client Director to join our Canadian team in an on-site role based in Calgary, Vancouver, or Toronto. This role focuses on leading senior client relationships, account direction, and commercial delivery. You will be accountable for the health of major client relationships, the quality of account leadership, and the connection between client objectives and the work delivered by Markage. The role combines relationship leadership, commercial judgment, escalation management, and team direction. You will work with senior clients, client managers, design and strategy leaders, producers, project managers, finance, and executive leadership. Clear communication, reliable follow-through, and careful work are expected. AI-assisted tools may be used for account analysis, meeting preparation, executive summaries, commercial documentation, research, and decision support. All AI-assisted work must be reviewed for accuracy, relevance, confidentiality, and fit before it is shared or used.

Essential duties

  • Lead senior relationships across assigned client accounts and act as a primary escalation point.
  • Set account direction, priorities, governance, and communication standards with internal teams.
  • Connect client business objectives to clear scopes, briefs, workstreams, and measurable outcomes.
  • Oversee account plans, forecasts, commercial health, scope changes, and major delivery risks.
  • Guide client managers and cross-functional teams through complex decisions and competing priorities.
  • Lead senior client meetings, presentations, reviews, and difficult conversations when required.
  • Identify opportunities for relevant additional work without compromising trust or delivery quality.
  • Maintain visibility across account performance, profitability inputs, resourcing, and commitments.
  • Ensure client feedback, approvals, risks, and decisions are documented and acted upon.
  • Support leadership decisions about account investment, staffing, and long-term relationship strategy.

Essential requirements

  • Substantial experience leading client relationships, accounts, or professional-service engagements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex scopes, senior stakeholders, commercial considerations, and delivery risk.
  • Strong judgment, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience leading or guiding account teams across multiple concurrent engagements.
  • Holds a valid Dex Management Area Director Certification (DEX-MAD) in the Sales & Customer Success domain.

Preferred qualifications

  • Agency, consulting, design, technology, or other multi-client leadership experience.
  • Experience with account forecasting, commercial planning, or portfolio-level reporting.
  • Experience developing long-term client relationships across multiple services or workstreams.
