The role

Job description

Markage is looking for a Compliance & Payroll Specialist to join our fully remote U.S. team. You will own the day-to-day accuracy and integrity of U.S. payroll and support core employment compliance requirements. This role is responsible for ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time, maintaining clean and audit-ready records, and reducing compliance risk across the U.S. team. You will work closely with the US HR Manager and external payroll providers. You will review payroll inputs, catch discrepancies before they become problems, maintain required documentation, and support clean year-end and audit processes. This is a high-trust role. Strong attention to detail, process discipline, and the ability to handle sensitive information with complete discretion are non-negotiable. The position is fully remote and requires consistent ownership and clear communication.

Essential duties

  • Own the accuracy and timely processing of U.S. payroll cycles.
  • Review all payroll inputs and changes for completeness and correctness before submission.
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies quickly to prevent payment errors.
  • Maintain complete, organized, and audit-ready payroll and employment compliance records.
  • Support required employment documentation, recordkeeping, and compliance tracking.
  • Coordinate effectively with external payroll providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all employee compensation and personal information at all times.
  • Support clean month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll and compliance processes.

Essential requirements

  • Proven experience in U.S. payroll processing, payroll administration, or HR compliance support.
  • Demonstrated high accuracy with numerical data and detailed recordkeeping.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to handle highly confidential compensation and employee information with discretion.
  • Comfortable working independently and owning processes in a fully remote environment.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
  • Holds a valid Dex Professional Senior Specialist Certification (DEX-PSS) or higher Professional-level Dex credential in the Human Resources & People Operations domain.

Preferred qualifications

  • Direct experience running or supporting full U.S. payroll cycles.
  • Familiarity with modern payroll systems or HRIS platforms.
  • Experience supporting multi-state employment compliance.
  • Strong process documentation and audit-support skills.
